    network programming and performance

can anyone calculate bandwidth and latency?

Suppose a 100Mbps point to point link is being set up between earth and a new lunar colony. The distance from the moon to earth is approximately 385000km and data travels over a link speed of light 3x10,00000000 km

calculate the RTT for the link

Using RTT as the delay, calculate the delay x bandwidth product for the link

What is the significance of the delay x bandwidth product computed above

    Re: network programming and performance

That's very interesting and upcoming for all of us. I was wondering about that myself. I'd say we should calculate not 100mbps, but at least 10Gbit or 100Gbit connection which is more a reality if such connection to be established in the future.

PS: When you go for a vacation to the Moon or Mars, we do want to have a good internet connection with the earth :) Now, imagine servers installed there and we'll have domains like .mars or .moon :))
